MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 418

Welcome to the 418th edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday, the final and most difficult contest of May - thanks again to my broniac @schvice for his help on one of the clips! If you haven't noticed, while I may be the mouthpiece for this thing, I've got a whole crew of MJM Hall of Famers sending me juicy clips year-round. That's how we keep this series rolling despite rapidly approaching the ten year mark (!?), which, incidentally will be celebrated during MJM420 #blazeon. As usual, the winner will receive an MP3 download code courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the song and dates of all three mystery clips. Each person gets one guess to start – if no one answers correctly in the first 24 hours, I'll post a hint. After the hint, everyone gets one more guess before Wednesday at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. I hope you enjoy yourself this Memorial Day.

Note: I'm a bit random with holiday MJMs - sometimes I punt till Tuesday, sometimes I drop on Monday. Irrespective of which day I start the contest, participation can be low during holiday weeks, so there's a chance that if folks struggle with this week's puzzle I'll end up extending the contest an extra day. We'll play it by ear, but I wouldn't dawdle: there are some talented, motivated MJMers able to crack even the most difficult puzzles.

Hint: Anyone paying close attention to the original post already knows which song these clips come from, but to accelerate the process just a bit I'll add that one of these clips comes from a version not on the jam charts ... and it's an earlier version than you think!

Answer: Suprise, surprise: @Chicken_Sub_In_Your_Hand continues their amazing streak with a third straight win (and six of eleven!), this time by identifying the three "You Enjoy Myself" jams alluded to in the original post: 10/31/95, 11/24/91, and 7/31/97. Check the blog for MJM419 when the n00bs get another crack at it.

P.S.: That square ^ right there says "Mystery Jam Monday Results" and is a link to the results to all previous mystery jams - I rarely recycle jams so it may help you narrow your search; or you may be bored and want to listen back to some old jams. Regardless, it's always there every week.

serpent_deflector This is so frustrating. I got two of the clips within a few minutes; one I recognized immediately. Been working on the last for nearly two hours. ::facepalm::

First one is a CLASSIC.

That's all I'll say.
(Pretty sure that doesn't give anything away)

I also just realized I looked at that one, but just didn’t skim to the right part of it. Sometimes my strategy of skimming pays off and other (most) times it doesn’t. Oh well.. next week maybe.

or the week after next so you can go out in a BLAZE of glory. Skimming can be brutal, especially when you are listening to the same song 30 times or more in a row. Keep the faith, you'll reach the mountain top soon enough.

HarborSeal Oh man, that 11/24/91 YEM was a great call. Was that the one you picked, @schvice? I'd never heard it until just now, and just listened to the whole thing through. Absolutely incredible jam segment. I'll be listening to that another 10 or 12 times this week. Stellar find.

Yep, that’s @schvice in action

Coleman_ Can I make a request that hyperlinks to each jam's show's page get added to the MJM once they've been solved? I know it's small, but it'd be save me about a minute each week of going through the comments for the right answers then Googling each show on a separate tab to contextualize the jam. Thanks!

HarborSeal I was comparing the 11/24/91 YEM with the one played a week earlier, on 11/16/91. Here, per the .net review archive, is what @Icculus said about the 11/16/91 YEM (twenty years ago this month!), with his characteristic eloquence and, um, argumentative charity:

"Anyone who doubts that this is the best pre-93 YEM should have their ears hacked off with a rusty spoon. This YEM has greater intensity than many YEMs after 1991, if not most."

Listening again to 11/16/91, it is a magnificent version, something every fan should hear at some point. I'm not sure the 11/24 version is better...but it's close, and I gotta say, anyone who prefers it should be permitted to keep their ears.

(PS: It's a testament to the value of those reviews that I'm still nitpicking them decades later. They're a huge part of what helped me get into Phish, and the forebears of the wonderful jam charts that have helped me discover so many great versions of so many songs...and where, by the way, the 11/24/91 YEM should be given a spot, stat.)

uctweezer I'm working on this week's MJM right now. Will be delayed an hour or so.
