Thanks for writing this. I've been trying for years to explain these things to fans, only without the theoretical expertise. Phish 3.0 is an undiminished in-person experience if you can surrender to it, but they used to be a lot better at tension and surprises, and a lot more interesting and dynamic upon respin.
