Review by 46Blaze

46Blaze Yet another grand slam. The dance party to Friday's alien abduction/face fucking. First set song selection was just perfect, and the second set was pretty much one huge Crosseyed jam with quick little stops in Soul Planet, ASIHTOS, and Piper (barely a minute before blasting off again) before wrapping up with a country-tinged Possum and gorgeous Slave. Coil was gravy at that point. See you guys tonight for Part Three!

Review by yEEt_1331

yEEt_1331 Alright. Personally, after the first show incinerated the amphitheatre, I expected a cooldown show for night two. This was no cooldown. Note that First Tube opened the first night, and they don’t usually open with a First Tube, and tonight, they did something similar. Bouncing was quite possibly the most puzzling opener I’ve ever seen, but I knew that no cooling down was happening. The Chalk Dust was a bit extended, venturing off into a bit of spaciness before returning to earth and ending proper. We’re hinting at something great here... F** Your Face, something not played too often, so a little rarity, OK. Wolfman’s was similar to Chalk Dust, a bit extended, a little exploration, but not ready to blast off quite yet. After four classics, Things People Do keeps the modern Phish catalog in check, a nice song that I think kept the flow going well. Then, Lengthwise. I’m 14 years old, this was my 12th show (my first was 1/3/15 Miami), and never did I think I’d hear a Lengthwise, and it happened on this night. The show ain’t even half over yet! Maze follows, naturally. Waiting All Night was one of the better examples of the song. The middle of Divided Sky was just hilarious. Trey stood still whenever everyone stopped playing, then looked around, then we all cheered super loud (I was four rows back in the pit Page side), and he cracked a smile and dragged the pause on a little longer. I thought that was pretty funny. Character Zero pumped everyone up for the second set. Crosseyed, while not a top-tier version, was experimental and tight, and then it happened. Soul Planet, one of my favorite new songs, blasted off into the stratosphere in a 23 minute epic. A perfect example of how far they’ve come since coming back in ‘09. Beautiful acts by all four guys, none in particular. They were all leading the jam. ASIHTOS was too short, in my opinion, but Piper got a bit of extra attention. Possum and Slave brought us to the end, and Squirming Coil got us away to our cars for Night Three.

Review by gingerphish

gingerphish I might even like this show better than last night. While there was no crazy, groundbreaking set 1 jams like last night's Ghost, the energy and flow throughout the first set was incredible. CDT didn't break very far, but had an interesting jam as did Wolfman's. Lengthwise was a nice treat into a ripping Maze. Waiting All Night fit well in this spot and then a killer Divided Sky followed by Zero to close us out. Definitely above average first set even for this year.

Second set was just over the top. Crosseyed and Painless got everything off to a fine start, but it's really the Soul Planet and Piper that make this show one of the highlights of the tour. This Soul Planet might be the best played and given what happened in San Fran, that's saying a lot. Just pure bliss and energy coming out of this song. Hate on the lyrics all you want, but this song is inspiring Phish to reach for new and interesting spaces they might not have reached. Also, the written part isn't really that bad and doesn't last as long as other songs where I'd like to skip right to the jam (*cough Fuego). ASIHTOS didn't last for too long, but was interesting and didn't slow down the set at all. The Piper was another highlight. Incredible jam. Possum and Slave both bring the heat as well. I see last night getting a lot of love, but I feel that this show was just as good, if not better. A gem in a summer full of highlights.

GAphishin Absolute gift of an evening!

First set was wonderful and the Lengthwise was a long time coming for me. A cool breeze blew out the heat and rain through Wolfman's jam was grand. From there it was a full on take off.

The great thing about Southeastern summer shows is the sun sets earlier and Kuroda is able to show his craft. His new rig is phenomenal! Such flexibility and capability. By second set Crosseyed on through Slave I found a new dimension of light. 3 dimensions - cones, collapsed upon each other, stage turned to castle and massive Mike bombs and Trey's peaks brought on the walls of light our way...btw - I was relatively clear minded.

By Slave's intro, I was mesmerized by our experience. Truly a set to have been grateful to be present for.

I am in the school of thought that quality of interaction between the guys supercedes the quantity or length of a jam. But these past two nights the men have provided both. Such synergy. Such good music.

A must listen!

hdorne I think it’s sad that MJ_Calleys’ review was downvoted so heavily just because he doesn’t like a song the band played. This show is great, but “Soul Planet” makes me cringe. It sounds like bad kids’ music. It has become yet another recent unbearably corny Phish song through which I have to fast-forward to get to the jam. This jam is great, though. What a run of shows! Hate that I missed them.

Review by MJ_Calleys

MJ_Calleys From couch tour...this was an average to slightly above average show. The outstanding song selection of the fourth quarter shouldn't make up for a land mine.

Final rating should be around 3.8

Very good first set, solid playing, sky was beautiful.

While the band came out firing in C&P, they made a terrible choice to not just jam that out into piper. The diversion into the horribly written soul planet cut a terrible hole in the second set. The jam out of soul planet was fantastic but it didn't excuse five minutes of ridiculous lyrics and abhorrence.

Why disrupt a wonderful flow with pure trite?

They need to realize when they have a dud. There are many other ways to go from C&P to piper. This madness must end.

-Phish fan since '95, Clifford ball, Went, fall 97, Island tour and Oswego.
